SOCIAL NETWORKING:
THE DANGERS OF SHARING TOO MUCH INFORMATION

Social networking has revitalized the World Wide Web as we know it today.  More and more people are connecting and reconnecting with friends and family members around the world and at an astounding rate.    Across these same lines, people are also connecting and co-mingling with co-workers creating a fine line between their personal and professional lives.   Facebook has become the most popular social networking site to date since its inception on February 4th, 2004. Facebook bolsters a staggering 500 million active users, the largest social networking community that continues to proliferate.   Founder Mark Zuckerberg prognosticates that there will be over a billion registered Facebook users in the next few years to come.   According to facebook.com more than half of ALL Facebook users are online on any given day.

The Hidden Dangers: Behind the Curtain

Theatre departments in our schools have a lot to offer young drama students and budding thespians these days in terms of both creativity and flexibility. Performing art departments across Maryland give students the chance to create extravagant backdrops and props that can look as real as time and energy allow. These future thespians not only get to characterize famous persons onstage they are also encouraged to construct their own sets and backgrounds. Students now can utilize state-of-the-art software to construct a set before they ever touch a power tool or hammer. Students are then challenged to construct their ideas from a set of blueprints without the experience of using real-world power tools. Unfortunately, some of these tools aren’t meant to be used by inexperienced teenage hands.

In September 2009, calculus teacher, Mrs. Frances confiscated a cell phone from sophomore Jeremy Smith, during class. Jeremy was paying far too much attention to the text on the screen of his cell phone and not on the lesson being taught on the blackboard.
